Fargo man admits to threatening Trump on Facebook, agrees to plead guilty
Case stems from a series of social media threats made between August and October 2025
FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) - A Fargo man has signed a plea agreement admitting he threatened President Donald Trump, according to federal court documents filed April 3, 2026.
Andrew Walter Sandvik has agreed to plead guilty to one count of threatening the president, a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871. The agreement must still be accepted by a federal judge. If approved, Sandvik could face up to five years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

The Threat
Court documents show that on Aug. 30, 2025, Sandvik posted a message to his Facebook account that read:
“TRUMP I AM THREATENING YOUR ENTIRE EXISTENCE! YOUR SS CANNOT PROTECT YOU FROM ME!”
In the plea agreement, Sandvik admitted he knowingly and willfully posted the message and that a reasonable person would view it as a true threat against the president. He also admitted he posted it with the intent to issue a true threat.
Background
Valley News Live first reported on Sandvik’s arrest in November 2025. Federal investigators say his online threats escalated between August and October 2025, targeting Trump, the Secret Service, and local law enforcement officers in Fargo and West Fargo.
The FBI opened its investigation Sept. 4, 2025, after a Fargo Police detective flagged concerning posts on Sandvik’s Facebook page and personal website. Agents consulted the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, which found Sandvik’s behavior consistent with patterns of targeted violence.
What Comes Next
Under the proposed plea agreement, prosecutors and defense attorneys agreed on a base offense level of 12 under federal sentencing guidelines, with a two-level upward adjustment because Sandvik made more than two threats. Prosecutors agreed to recommend a two-level reduction for acceptance of responsibility.
If the judge accepts the agreement, the U.S. Attorney’s Office will recommend a sentence at the low end of the applicable guidelines range. Remaining counts of the indictment would be dismissed at sentencing.
A court date has not yet been announced.
