WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Future air service to Las Vegas by Sun Country Airlines from Williston is up in the air.

Sun Country Airlines operated those flights for the past four years during the fall months. Allegiant purchased the airline, and the deal should be made official later this year.

Williston Interim Airport Director Ryan O’Rear said they’ve been in contact with Sun Country, but haven’t heard much besides the purchase announcement.

He said he expects to learn more from both airlines as the transition gets closer.

“We’re obviously going to be continuing to work with all our airline carriers to fill out any gaps and make sure that we’re doing what’s best for the community moving forward,” said O’Rear.

The contracts between Williston and Sun Country were usually approved in the spring. O’Rear says any local news involving the carriers may come later in the summer.
