BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - North Dakota’s newest Superintendent of Public Instruction plans on visiting every school district starting this week. He said he wants schools to provide as much choice as possible for their students.

Levi Bachmeier said he wants education to be as personalized as possible based on student interests and career paths. That includes offerings like career and technical education.

“I think we want to work with our schools to ensure all of those things are available to students so they can help receive a relevant education that prepares them for their future,” said Bachmeier.

Bachmeier said he also wants to address the affordability of dual credit courses, which are college-level classes taken by high school students.

“I don’t think we need to charge what we do as it relates to tuition. These courses almost always cost so much less for these colleges to provide. The instructors are most often actually high school teachers that are teaching college curriculum,” said Bachmeier.

Bachmeier will first visit with the Marmath School District in Slope County on Monday afternoon.
