The post says the SHERP is designed to handle extreme terrain, deep snow, and water. Officials say the vehicle will be especially useful as winter approaches, when harsh conditions can make other areas difficult to reach.

Border Patrol said the SHERP will support both border security operations and rugged wilderness rescues, reinforcing what the agency called its top priorities: border security and community safety.
