WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - The new roads for Highway 2 and 26th Street West in Williston are clear of construction.

Williston Mayor Howard Klug said the main through roads are functional, but it may take a little longer to complete Dakota Drive, which provides access to Williston Square businesses.

The former intersection hadn’t been touched in 50 years and needed to be modified to better streamline traffic through the city.

“This project here, you just have to wait and see how it’s actually going to turn out. If all the plans fall into place, it’s going to be a vast improvement for the city,” said Klug.

Klug also mentioned it will improve travel between the eastern and western parts of town.

“When the hockey facility and other retailers move into those areas, we will have a clear path into Williston Square and beyond for west Williston,” said Klug.

Landscaping and striping work on the pavement won’t take place until next spring.
