Williston Basin School District’s food pantry supporting those in need
WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - The Williston Basin School District has a food pantry to help those who need it, and they are bracing for a possible increase in demand because of the pause of SNAP benefits.
Kelly Tinklenberg and Laurie Gustafson prepare bags every Thursday with various food items.
They say this year, they support around 35 families and give out more than 800 pounds worth of food.
They’re expecting that uptick because the Government Shutdown has delayed food stamps for now.
“We heard rumors that we’re going to see more, even with some of the families we had come through last week, there was mention of the changes, so they might utilize the pantry more,” said Tinklenberg.
Fortunately, community support has helped them keep pace.
They say they welcome any donations, especially boxed items or monetary support.
The pantry is open most Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the District Office on 820 East Broadway.
They can also provide food at an alternate date and time.
