WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Williams County Sheriff Verlan Kvande says they’re looking to expand the jail’s infirmary.

The proposed renovation will create six infirmary beds, providing more space and separation for inmates with infectious diseases or other medical needs.

The plans include modifying the existing common area, adding nursing offices and new flooring. The County is allocating up to $3.2 million for the project.

“They come up periodically; it’s not a daily use type of scenario. The frequency with the medical needs of inmates do come up periodically. Enough so that I think the renovation is appropriate,” said Kvande.

Requests for proposals will go out later this week for a construction manager.

A building committee will make a final recommendation to the county commission for final approval on Oct. 7.
