Fourth of July: a busy time for firefighters
WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - The holiday weekend will be a busy time for our first responders.
Fire Departments like Williston’s are making sure there’s enough staff to handle any emergency. They also manage ambulance services, so they’ll have several on-call and volunteer staff.
Assistant Chief Corey Johnson said call volumes tend to increase around this time of the year.
“We usually see some dumpster fires and garbage can fires mainly from people disposing of fireworks while they are still hot. The danger there is that a lot of these places are close to buildings, so we do want to make sure we get there quickly and get those under control,” said Johnson.
Johnson said grass fires can also be a concern, but he is hopeful the recent moisture will limit that danger.
