Williston school board candidate pulls off upset as write-in candidate
WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Last night was a surprise win for a write-in candidate on the Williston Basin School Board.
Annette Sluder made her intentions known less than three weeks ago and unofficially won.
Sluder has two children attending school in the district and has worked on committees looking to pass school bonds.
Nine hundred and seventy-four people wrote in her name, helping her to defeat Dennis Nehring by more than 500 votes.
Sluder said she aims to support teachers and students going forward.
“I want to see what we can do in Williston to improve our retention rate with our teachers. I know our test scores have gone up in the last year, and obviously, we want to keep that upward trend going. I want to be a part of any solutions,” said Sluder.
Votes will be canvassed on June 23.
Sluder is expected to take her seat along with Jeremy Brenner, Brittany Kilgore and Samuel Johnson in July.
