BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - North Dakota lawmakers met Wednesday to narrow down the number of legislative studies they will conduct ahead of the 2027 session. The purpose is to have data prepared on certain subjects to create proposed bills.

Lawmakers approved around 40 studies.

They include looking into state laws involving child sex crimes and human trafficking, the feasibility of nuclear and geothermal energy and supporting emergency service departments.

Legislative staff will also take a closer look at improving higher education and prescription drug transparency.

Legislators turned down about 20 studies.

They included looking into regulating lab-grown meat, creating a government spending database and reviewing health care services in correctional facilities.

Also rejected was an examination of prescription drug pricing.
