New Williston turf field to host WDA baseball tournament

WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - The WDA baseball tournament in Williston will be played this weekend thanks to the new turf field at Williston State College.

The renovations at Rabon Field this spring helped keep Williston’s athletic teams from losing out on home-field advantage when precipitation may have previously caused site changes.

College baseball coach and associate athletic director Mason Przybilla said turf manages moisture drainage better than natural grass.

“The kids are going to be able to play. That’s really what this whole thing was about from the beginning: being able to be outside and play more when we have the weather that we do,” said Przybilla.

While the field and stands are completed, Przybilla said crews are still finishing some external work, including fencing and sidewalks.

The site was also the location for the Region 13 college baseball tournament earlier this month.
