BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - People will see some additional relief after lawmakers passed property tax relief. The move also comes at a cost to local governments.

The passage of House Bill 1176 also caps local governments from increasing property tax levies by more than three percent per year. Sen. Brad Bekkedahl, who serves as a Williston City Commissioner, says it’s going to be something that everyone will need to adjust to.

”I think there are some political subdivisions that will have higher challenges than others, but I think we can all adapt to this,” said Bekkedahl.

The extent of the cap’s impact on local governments will be noticed first by school boards as they plan next year’s budgets over the summer.
