Williston to Vegas flight numbers down in 2024 as Sun Country announces changes next fall
WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Williston Airport Director Anthony Dudas said changes are coming this fall when the direct flight to Las Vegas returns.
Commissioners approved a contract with Sun Country Airlines to provide flights from Sept. 4 to Dec. 15. This year, they will take place on Mondays and Thursdays instead of Sundays and Thursdays. Dudas said this is to improve passenger numbers, which dropped by 14% during the last two years.
“Members of the public have communicated that they would like the opportunity to be able to go to sporting events and to other shows and concerts that do tend to happen on Sundays,” said Dudas.
Dudas said they plan on marketing more to regional travelers instead of Canadians due to the weakening Canadian dollar. Dudas cites other challenges, including brand recognition and a shortage of staff, as to why the schedule is not being expanded.
This fall will be the fourth year that Sun Country has provided flights out of Williston.
