WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Williams County Commissioner David Montgomery celebrated his retirement Tuesday afternoon.

Montgomery served for 20 years and decided not to run for reelection this spring. During his time, he played a role in shaping the county’s growth during the oil boom.

Montgomery said one of his biggest accomplishments was making sure he and the other commissioners kept the county fiscally responsible.

“So proud of knowing the fact that as much money as the hundreds of millions of dollars we’ve spent on infrastructure, buildings and facilities, we’re debt-free,” said Montgomery.

Montgomery also led efforts to pass the 1% public safety sales tax and the Williams County Behavioral Health Grant.

Chris Walstad was elected to take Montgomery’s seat this month.
