Man charged with spitting blood on police officer following bar fight in Williston

WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - A Williston man has been charged after spitting at a police officer during an arrest.

Court documents said Fernando Lopez was involved in a fight at a local bar and was bleeding. Police cuffed Lopez to de-escalate the incident, but Lopez was noncompliant. After police forcibly placed Lopez into an officer’s vehicle, they said Lopez spit blood on the officer.

Lopez is charged with contact by bodily fluids, a class C felony and preventing arrest and a class A misdemeanor.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30.
