Williston man arrested for shooting neighbor’s dog

WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - A Williston man has been arrested for shooting and killing his neighbor’s dog during an argument.

Police say 66-year-old Ricky Williams shot 64-year-old Goeffrey Harstad’s pet Wednesday morning.

A release from Williston Police Department states Harstad was walking his dog when it got into a fight with Williams’ dog. Officers say after the animals were separated, Williams went to his home, picked up a firearm and shot the dog.

When police arrived, both Williams and Harstad had weapons drawn. Officers de-escalated the situation.

Williams was charged with Reckless Endangerment and Animal Cruelty felonies.

Both Williams and Harstad were also charged with discharging a firearm in city limits, a class B misdemeanor.
