MOORHEAD, Minn. (Valley News Live) - Newly filed court documents explain what police say happened leading up to a deadly shooting in Moorhead.

Moorhead Police were called to a parking lot at 911 18th Street South just after 3 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, for reports of a man with a gunshot wound.

When police arrived, they found 37-year-old, Franky Torres, laying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Court documents say a female friend of Torres first called him to this location after she said she was sexually assaulted by a different man. The documents indicate Torres got into an argument with the man, and began punching and beating him.

A different witness was there and claimed a black male with dreadlocks then came out, demanding Torres to stop hitting the man, eventually shooting him in the head with a pistol.

The witness was able to provide a description to police, leading to the arrest of 35-year-old, Jamal Ahmed.

Moorhead Police say when they first interviewed Ahmed, he denied being anywhere near the shooting, or knowing any of the parties involved. They say he also changed his appearance by cutting off his dreadlocks.

Ahmed made his first court appearance today, July 26, where he faces 2nd Degree Murder charges.
