Home builder charged with construction fraud in McKenzie County

WATFORD CITY, N.D. (KUMV) - A custom home building company owner is facing a charge of construction fraud in McKenzie County.

Prosecutors say Michael Dolbec, owner of Windsong Custom Homes, abandoned a house project near Arnegard. Court records state the owners paid him more than $129,000 as a down payment, but Dolbec did not use it towards construction.

Dolbec filed for bankruptcy last April, and during a hearing, the potential homeowners asked him where the money went. Dolbec told them it went into the business, but wasn’t more specific.

He waived his preliminary hearing and pleaded not guilty. His trial is scheduled for July 16.
