BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Century Boys Basketball hasn’t lost since Jan. 24, 2025. Since then, the Patriots have won a regional title and, of course, a state title.

Garrett Nissley was a big part of that team, and he was named to last year’s state all-tournament team for his efforts, but when you’re telling Garrett’s story, there’s one person you can’t leave out.

Garrett Nissley lives in the moment.

“If you’re always looking towards the future, you’re never going to enjoy what you have now,” said Garrett.

Garrett’s future entails a college basketball career at Minnesota State-Moorhead. Lucky for him, the Patriots guard had a bit of help with the recruitment process.

“Not a lot of players get to do that with an older sister, especially at the level that I got to,” said Garrett.

Garrett’s older sister, Logan, plays basketball at the University of Nebraska, fulfilling a dream that she and her younger brother share.

“If you set your mind to do it, you can do anything you want to do,” said Garrett. “When you see somebody close to you and that you’ve grown up with actually do what they want to do and what they love to do, then it really just sets that plan into motion.”

As Garrett goes toe-to-toe with state championship contenders, the impact his big sister had on him still shows.

“Those backyard games at The Y early in the morning with Logan, that was very big for me from a competitive standpoint,” said Garrett.

The Nissley sibling rivalry remained competitive, no matter the circumstances.

“We would go to the courts a lot, and she would whoop up on me, but I think I got her one time back in seventh or eighth grade, and then she didn’t play a whole lot after that,” said Garret.

Even with his team coming off winning a state championship, Garrett wants to take his game a step further to help Century become the first Double-A team to repeat as champions since the 2016-2017 seasons.

“My nerves maybe got to me in the state championship game, so I think that experience is going to carry over to this year,” said Garrett.

Garrett and the number one Patriots put their undefeated record on the line on Friday against the number two undefeated Bismarck.
