Red Cross writes holiday cards for veterans

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - This holiday season, the American Red Cross in western North Dakota is spreading some cheer to local veterans.

It’s part of the Holidays for Heroes campaign — an effort to collect handwritten holiday cards and personal messages for veterans living in long-term care facilities.

“It’s kind of getting a chance to… to let your voice… share your appreciation to a specific person, you know, and really say… you know, kind of really say how much it means to you,” said Lyndon Orr, a participant.

Organizers say many veterans spend the holidays without family nearby, and even a simple card can help reduce isolation and remind them they’re remembered.

The cards are currently out for delivery throughout western North Dakota.
