ND Forest Service promotes Fire Prevention Week
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - One year ago, historic wildfires ripped through Williams County. The fires are likely the worst in the state’s history, with over 110,000 acres burned.
Two people died, and the fires injured six others.
The North Dakota Forest Service worked to contain those fires.
The department is reminding everyone to check daily fire danger and burn restrictions.
It’s partnering with other agencies to promote Fire Prevention Week, which runs through Saturday.
“Fire is never going to go away. It’s always a thing that, you know, we live with every single day,” said Hunter Noor, Wildlife and Operations AFMR at ND Forest Service. “So, making people aware, and we can maybe prevent fires from happening.”
The Fire Service said this is a good time to check to make sure your smoke alarms are working, develop a home escape plan and always remember to look while you cook to prevent kitchen fires.
