WILLISTON, N.D. (KMOT) – The city of Williston adopted a resolution formally acknowledging its commitment to the creation of a year-round indoor athletics facility.

The resolution supports the Williston Ice and Turf Facility project, which would allow year-round access to ice for youth and adult sports.

The venue would also serve as a multi-purpose arena for larger capacity events, such as concerts and recreational shows.

The city said voters approved an extension of the Williams County 1% sales tax, which included provisions to dedicate revenue to quality of life initiatives.

The resolution comes from that, with the city providing $1 million annually for 10 years from the sales tax towards the project.

The city said it also plans to invest $13 million in infrastructure improvements with Williston Square to aid in access to and from the facility.

Williams County has also pledged $12 million to the project. The goal is to break ground next summer, with the project taking 16 to 24 months to complete.
