DHS students work on special projects to celebrate school’s expansion
DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - Dickinson High School started the process of constructing a new addition to its building. Both faculty and students are excited to see the final product, and several have found unique ways to celebrate.
Faculty and students couldn’t be more excited, and they’re finding creative ways to express themselves.
Eighth-grader Austin Lehmann created keychains as a special souvenir for attendees to take home.
He said his coding teacher told him and his classmates to submit their ideas for key chains, and out of all of those, Austin’s won. He said one of the requirements for the design was a letter ‘D’ for ‘Dickinson.’
“When he showed me the email, they said they selected mine and how it was going to be shown off here, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s really cool,’ and got a special thanks, which was amazing. I just feel so happy right now,” Austin said.
He made nearly 150 keychains over the span of a week.
However, Austin wasn’t the only one working on something special.
Students from the school’s culinary classes had their own competition. Each team made appetizers for the celebration, and whichever dish receives the most votes wins.
Junior Danyn Smith said even though she’ll have graduated by the time the addition is finished, she’s excited about the opportunities it will provide students.
“I like it. We won’t be here when it’s finished, but my sister will be, so I’m hoping that I’ll be able to see it,” Danyn said.
Project coordinators plan on having the academic wing completed by December 2026, and it will be open when students return from break in January 2027.
The chicken bacon ranch sliders ended up winning that cooking competition.
