Rain brings needed moisture for planting

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - For ranchers and producers who needed rain, your wishes and prayers were granted Monday, with rain totals of an inch or more in Bismarck, Williston and Jamestown.

We’ve had favorable rain totals around the state. However, some producers in areas that have experienced wildfires have concerns about erosion.

Others know this rain is a sign to get into their fields and pastures to start planting their crops.

“It’s been way too dry to put seeds in the ground, and a lot of producers were worried about not getting moisture and not having a good germination. So, the rain is really going to jumpstart planting as well, this year,” said Jaden Russell, Morton County Agriculture and Natural Resources NDSU Extension agent.

For producers and ranchers worried about erosion, Russell said with adequate moisture, plants will overtake those areas fairly quickly.
