WILLISTON, N.D. (KUMV) - Williston will soon have a local fixed-wing air ambulance service provider.

City officials announced Care Flight will operate in Williston this summer. It will be staffed with three nurses and three paramedics through the Williston Fire Department.

“In this operation, working with Chief Matt Clark, who already employs paramedics, it made the most operational sense to have our flight paramedics and flight nurses working directly for the fire department, which is already providing local emergency medical services to the community,” said Kyle Black, Williston Care Flight vice president.

Williston was left without a local service provider in 2023 after Guardian Flight shut down. Services were still being provided from Minot and Bismarck, with longer wait times.

“The Williston Care Flight program will be a part of this community for years to come, and community members should take comfort in knowing that the historical events related to the overnight loss of air medical transportation services are a thing of the past,” said Jacob Keller, Williston Care flight president.

Keller and Black said efforts to bring the company to Williston can be attributed to the City Commission and leadership at CHI St. Alexius Health Williston.
