North Dakota vehicle crash stats trending down
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - The North Dakota Highway Patrol and Vision Zero personnel believe their safe driving messaging and initiatives are paying off.
There were over 15,000 vehicle crashes in North Dakota in 2018 resulting in over 4,000 injuries when Vision Zero began its safe-driving messaging.
In the most recent data from 2023, those crashes have decreased by nearly 5,000 with 1,400 fewer injuries. Safe-driving school programs have helped as has increased patrols.
“The different enforcement overtime grants that are granted through DOT for law enforcement to be more active on the road and looking for those crash-causing violations has certainly helped people know that we’re out there,” said North Dakota Highway Patrol’s Public Information Officer Sergeant Jenna Clawson-Huibregtse.
Vision Zero is currently focused on their Buckle Up Phone Down pledge. For more information, check out its website.
