North Dakota fisheries seeing strong spring numbers
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Game and Fish said heading into the warmer weather this year, the fishing outlook in the state is looking great.
Fisheries in the state are at an all-time high. There are 440 fishable waters in North Dakota and over 1,000 square miles of water.
The mild winter allowed for no winter kill. Walleye populations have never been better in the state.
“North Dakota is open 365 days a year for fishing. Historically and I’m sure 2024 will be the same, June is the peak month in terms of fishing activity and again we have all these fish out there, it is not just walleye we have in North Dakota we have two species of Northern Pike,” said North Dakota Game and Fish Chief Greg Power.
The state’s free fishing weekend is June 1 and 2.
