Minot residents will have free bus fare on Election Day
Not everyone will have their own ride to Minot's only polling location in the Minot Armory.
So the City of Minot is offering free bus fare on Election Day, making it easier for some residents to get out and vote.
City officials say this makes sense because the polling place is also where all the buses stop every half hour.
"All of our buses come down here to the auditorium every 30 minutes. Being that this is the polling place for the City of Minot, it just made sense for us to provide that transportation right to the front door of the polling place," said Brian Horinka, Minot Transit superintendent.
We spoke with passengers off-camera who said that the free rides are encouraging them to cast their ballot, something Horinka said he agrees with.
"We discussed it and decided that it would be a good way to promote everyone’s civic duty and help them have the opportunity to get out and vote if they maybe had struggle with transportation," Horinka said.
The buses and polling location operate the same hours on Election Day from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
