Booking a flight by phone? One airline will now charge you extra for that

(CNN) - Air Canada has started charging a fee for reservations booked with a live person, $30 per ticket.

The fee applies per ticket, so a pair of seats booked over the phone costs $60.

The fee is non-refundable, even if the ticket is canceled.

Why Air Canada made the change

Air Canada made the change because it wants customers to use its website or app to book flights.

Who is exempt from Air Canada’s phone booking fee?

There are a few exceptions.

Passengers who need special care, like wheelchair assistance, will not be charged.

There is no fee to call for support with existing reservations, or to book new ones if delays or cancellations impact an itinerary.
