Pro’s Pointers: Preparing your boat for the water
BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Everyone needs a routine in their lives, even when you’re preparing to fish. Johnnie Candle and Lee Timmerman explained why in this week’s Pro’s Pointers.
“Every time I launch my boat, I have a routine,” Johnnie Candle said. “And there’s a good reason for having a routine in this case. We’re on a very steep ramp, so step number one is getting very near the water. Then I’m going to start at the bow and unhook the winch strap. And the safety strap will then move to the back of the boat where we have to remove the stern tie downs.”
“I get the first one and then I put the drain plug in,” Candle said. “Now, if anyone interrupts me between the bow of the boat and the back of the boat, and that step goes overlooked, bad things can happen. We get the last stern tie down, and then as I go back to the truck, I’ll stop and turn on my depth finders again.”
“There’s a very good reason for having a routine,” Candle said. “It makes things go quicker and smoother at the boat ramp and it just helps with a nice smooth flow. But if you’re helping a buddy and you step into his routine, please make sure you let him know what you did when you did it and why you did it. Because the last thing you want to see is your buddy racing from the boat dock to his truck because his boat is sinking on the ramp.”
Next week, Candle will explore the latest technology in fishing.
