‘Do more of what’s right:’ Alex Balazs receives ND GOP endorsement for US House
MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - The North Dakota Republican Party endorsed a candidate for the state’s at-large U.S. House primary.
With incumbent representative Julie Fedorchak not in attendance, state Republicans formally endorsed veteran Alex Balazs for U.S. House for the second year in a row.
Tom Tracy nominated Balazs, followed by a speech from Alex’s wife, Cindy.
Balazs then addressed the floor and received standing ovations throughout his speech, most notably when he talked about the statewide incumbents not showing up this weekend, saying it meant they did not want to be here.
He addressed the media afterwards, saying he plans to host meetings across the state between now and June 9.
Here’s what he has to say about what he’s going to do to convince voters he is the better option than Congresswoman Fedorchak.
“Do more of what’s right. I can’t tell you how important leadership is. People need to see you talking to them. I don’t know if you’ve ever run for anything in the past, but you can’t be hiding from anybody. You’ve got to engage in it,” said Balazs.
This now sets up a second primary challenge between Balazs and Fedorchak.
We reached out to her for comment, and she responded shortly after Balazs earned the party’s endorsement.
“The leader of our party, President Donald Trump, has given me his ‘complete and total endorsement.’ Working with him, I have helped reduce North Dakotans’ tax burden, secure our border, reduce regulatory burdens across industries and improve safety in our state and nation. I look forward to sharing these results with North Dakotans and earning their support in the June 9 primary and the November election.”
Balazs said he would reach out to those who distanced themselves from the convention and try to bring them back.
The Cando native served for more than 20 years across several branches of the military.
We’ll be closing following the primary races leading up to June 9.
