MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Downtown Minot will be seeing some more construction next week.

The more than 80-year-old Third Street Bridge will be under construction starting Monday.

City engineer Lance Meyer said crews will replace some of the concrete that’s gone bad and one of the bearings on the bridge.

He said they chose to close the northbound lane ahead of construction to take some weight off the areas that need repairs.

“What we’ll be doing this year is fixing some of those issues to make sure the bridge can stay open,” said Lance Meyer.

Meyer explained the southbound lane will remain open during construction.

“As the contractor gets into their work, if we have to close the southbound lane as well, then we will put that out for the public,” said Meyer.

He said the work will take care of existing issues, and following re-inspection, the city will look at other repairs in the near future.

Meyer said the project should be completed by October.
