WASHINGTON (KFYR/KMOT) – Doug Burgum was officially sworn in as Interior Secretary after receiving a largely bipartisan confirmation by Congress Thursday.

The former North Dakota Governor shared an image of himself being sworn in on X, with his hand on a Bible held by his wife, former North Dakota First Lady Kathryn Burgum.

Burgum shared the image with the following quote:

“Grateful to @POTUS for the honor to serve as Secretary of the Interior. We look forward to delivering on President Trump’s vision for Energy Dominance — which is the foundation of American prosperity, affordability for American families, unrivaled national security, and world peace. We will achieve Energy Dominance by sustainably developing our natural resources while championing clean air and clean water, protecting our most beautiful lands, and expanding outdoor recreation! And we will strengthen our mission of enhancing the quality of life, promoting economic opportunities, and empowering our Tribal partners through mutual respect, open communication, collaboration, and a sincere willingness to listen.”

The Senate confirmed Burgum’s nomination for Interior Thursday by a vote of 79-18.

On Friday, Burgum appeared in the Oval Office when President Trump signed an executive order slashing federal regulations.
