BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - United Tribes Technical College students are trying out their green thumbs. The students operate a greenhouse and garden, then they sell the produce at Bismarket.

Land Grant Operation Specialist Amanda Padron said the students gain experience as small business owners with hands-on practice. They grow zucchini, cucumbers and mushrooms and are selling out of some items at the market.

They also give produce to the UTTC community, and the students use the produce in a food preservation class.

“And then we have a variety of native plants as well. We are doing a seed project through a grant that we have. We are propagating native plants and trying to grow more seeds to distribute,” said Padron.

They plan to expand their greenhouse into a year-round operation which is being built right now.
