Southwest Central Regional Science Fair held at Gateway to Science

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Students from around the region competed in the Southwest Central Regional Science Fair at Gateway to Science on Monday.

Students in the junior and senior divisions were selected as finalists to compete at the state competition in April.

Two of this year’s judges were KFYR meteorologists Kevin Lawrence and Jacob Morse.

The students’ booths were all STEM-related.

“Because it really not only expands our knowledge, it helps us learn about things that we wouldn’t have thought about,” said Carrie LaDuke, a ninth grader at Flasher Public School.

She said she also gained skills like public speaking and collaboration.

The senior high first-place winner was Ava Hauck from Dickinson High School and the second-place winner was James Gessey from Flasher Public School.

The junior high first-place winner was Avery Stevens and the second-place winner was Jocelyn Zingg, both from Flasher Public School.

The winners were awarded scholarships, opportunities and more.
