MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Trying new things can often fire up the soul for a new passion.

An event on the Minot State University Campus is doing just that when it comes to ceramic making.

Minot High School student Aubrey Berger is getting her hands dirty.

The freshman took a seat at the pottery wheel at this year’s NOTSTOCK to learn more about ceramic making.

“Throughout getting to do the wheel throwing, it really became easier, and I think it’s a class I’d like to take in the future,” said Berger.

For nearly 20 years, NOTSTOCK has highlighted all areas of the art industry, and is both educational and hands-on.

The college’s artist-in-residence, Blaire Engel, joins a variety of artists and presenters on campus this year.

“Giving demos to anybody that comes in and showing them our studio,” said Engel.

Engel said it’s a great way to fire up students and the greater Minot community about the arts at MSU.

“NOTSTOCK really brings attention to the facilities that we have, to bring in those people that might not know that we’re here,” said Engel.

Now, Berger is looking into taking pottery classes.

“Do this whole experience here, so far I’ve had a lot of fun, and art is really something I want to do when I’m older,” said Berger.

NOTSTOCK is not the only place you can create art with clay.

Engel said they offer community classes throughout the year.

“I think we all like art just a little bit, and it really gets you involved, even if you feel like you’re not an artist yourself,” said Engel.

NOTSTOCK festivities will continue through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A full schedule can be found on the event’s website.
