‘We got the results we were hoping for’: Mark Jantzer reacts to unofficial results as next mayor of Minot
MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) - Voters in Minot elected Mark Jantzer as the city’s next mayor in Tuesday’s special election.
First elected in 2008, he’s the longest-tenured current council member.
Jantzer will fulfill the remaining term of mayor through next June and would have to run again in next year’s election if he wants to keep the position.
Jantzer won the election by more than 900 votes.
Here’s a breakdown of the voting:
- Jantzer secured 2,351 votes
- Council member Rob Fuller came in second with 1,430
- Fellow council member Paul Pitner came in a close third with 1,398
- Josiah Roise received 324 votes
We were able to catch up with Jantzer moments after the results were revealed.
Jantzer has served as acting mayor since April.
He campaigned on responsible spending, lower taxes and quality city services.
“Well, I’m very happy with the results, obviously. Very thankful to the citizens of Minot who got out to vote. Good numbers for a special election, and we got the results we are hoping for,” said Jantzer.
The council will now have to appoint another member to fill his seat, but it’s also possible for citizens to petition for a special election.
Canvassing to make these results official will take place on Aug. 18.
We’ll have more on Jantzer’s first priorities as mayor on Wednesday.
