Update at 2:00 a.m.

A fire in Bismarck overnight left one person homeless after flames destroyed a home.

Bismarck Fire Department responded to the 600 block of Browning Ave. around 11 PM Thursday night.

Neighbors say they heard an explosion and saw fire coming from the living room. BFD says one man was inside the basement of the home at the time of the fire but ran out uninjured.

When Police arrived on scene first they say the house was completed engulfed in flames.

Captain Donavan Voeller of Bismarck Fire Department says it appears the house is a total loss.

"With the volume of fire that we had, I was concerned about people being inside, once we got it all clear as far as nobody being in the house, then our efforts went to getting the fire put out" said Captain Donavan Voeller, Bismarck Fire Department.

There were multiple fire crews on scene and an ambulance. BFD says the fire was under control in 45 minutes. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
