Homegrown with Hope: Copper Dog Cafe 'mini gym'

MANDAN, N.D. - A new business in Mandan is helping families find a healthy outlet for "the wiggles" while meeting a need for parents of young children. The owners of Copper Dog Cafe on Main Street created a mini gym for families in the back of their waffles and coffee restaurant.

During the shop's grand opening in mid-October, families got the chance to play around in the new space for free.

Cathy Ehlis, owner of Copper Dog, says she was inspired to build the gym after hearing parents were looking for options for preschool-aged children. She has years of experience teaching gymnastics in the area.

"We had people that said, 'hey, do you have any ins for me getting into gymnastics at Dakota Star, because there is a long waiting line and we've been on it for months?'" Ehlis said.

The mini gym in the back of the restaurant has enough space for six children and an instructor. Families can sign up for sessions on their website, www.copperdogcafe.com.
