A year long celebration came to an end today. As Williston's Historic Old Armory celebrated its centennial this afternoon.
The old armory has served the community of Williston for 100 years. The facility's primary purpose back in 1916 was to be the home and training facility for company E of the North Dakota National Guard, first North Dakota infantry.
The facility was officially retired from military service in the late 1950's. Since then, the old armory has served as the home for many organizations.
"We need to know the architect and history of some of these old buildings need to be preserved. So 100 years from now when our kids are looking around, it isn't a WalMart building or a gas station that represents the history of this community," said Diane Hagen, Historic Old Armory board member.
The old armory hosts many plays and is a rehearsal hall for miss North Dakota Scholarship pageant.
