MINOT, N.D. - Women's breakaway roping is set to debut at the Minot Y's Men's Rodeo this weekend.

Jordyn Schaefer of Des Lacs will be there to compete, riding her 17-year old palomino Robert. She's already won the NDRA Reserve Breakaway Championship three times along with other accolades.

Schaefer described what it takes to be successful in this sport, which is scheduled after bull riding at the Y's Men's Event.

"You definitely need a horse that is fast and can help you out there. You need to practice muscle memory, determination and willpower to go up and down the row to get better. [You need to] spend time with people that will help you get better," Schaefer said.
