BISMARCK, N.D. - It’s early signing day for some NCAA sports. Century’s Treyton Mattern is going to follow in the footsteps of his parents. Mattern signed to play basketball at the University of Mary.

“Both of my parents went to UMary, and it's close to home. I really liked the team and coaches and want they had to offer me, both academically and athletically at the school," Mattern said.

Head Coach of the men’s team at UMary, Joe Kittell said, "His mom is a Hall of Famer out here in track and field and his dad played in the early 90's for Coach Rod Jonas, so definitely he's a guy who's kind of grown up watching Marauders basketball and being a part of Marauders basketball. But we needed to do a lot more than just, 'hey play where your dad and mom played,' so we're excited to get him, obviously. I think a big help in that too is having three teammates already here."

Other Bismarck-Mandan athletes that signed Wednesday: Century’s Lilly Keplin and Mandan’s Megan Zander to the University of North Dakota for basketball; Mandan’s Kennedy Harris signed to play basketball at Northern State; Bismarck High’s Ryan Ripplinger will wrestle at North Dakota State University; St. Mary’s Rachel Neff and Marriann Senftner will play soccer at UMary; and Legacy’s Paxton Miller has signed to play baseball at UMary.
