BISMARCK, N.D. - The Bismarck boys basketball team started the season with four straight wins. On Tuesday at the Bismarck Events Center, the Demons proved to themselves, and the rest of the WDA, that they are as good as they thought they would be.
BHS beat Century 55-53, pushing the winning streak to 5-straight. This veteran team is off to a super start.
"We return so many guys from a season ago and we've been to back to back state tournaments. We have two guys in our program who are now playing in their third season and we have seven guys returning from a season ago that played quality minutes in the state tournament, so we're just excited across the board. The fact that we have guys who have been on our system and been in our gym that understand those expectations," said head coach Jordan Wilhelm.
Guard Ian Schafer is one of those guys. He thought the transition from the fall to winter sports would be a good one for BHS.
"I kind of like it because a lot of the guys that play basketball play football, so we don't really lose touch and we kind of keep the chemistry going. We have a lot of returners besides Will Madler getting hurt in football that kind of hurts us but we have a bigger team than we're used to having and it should be a fun year."said Schafer, a senior guard at BHS.
Bismarck and Mandan are off to undefeated starts in the WDA. The Demons are back on the court tonight in Belcourt.
