BISMARCK, N.D. - The Marauders wrestling season is already underway, and one U-Mary athlete is already gaining some national recognition.
After defeating the number one wrestler in the nation at 149 lbs and finishing 5-0 last week, sophomore Rudy Guillen was named the NSIC Wrestler of the Week.
"I saw on the bracket that James Plesky from St.Cloud. there's no reason to treat anybody different it’s the beginning of the season too just got to wrestle one match at a time it was tough but I came out there to win,” said Guillen.
Head Coach of the Marauders, Adam Aho says Guillen’s consistent mindset and toughness has helped him in the early part of the season.
"The nice thing with Rudy, every time you go out there, he's going wrestle hard, and he's not going leave anything, you know, on the mat. He's just going go out and leave everything out there. Whoever he's wrestling, I don't care if he's the best kid in the country or the worst kid in the country, he's going to wrestle the same. He's going to go in there and compete and that other kid going be in a dog fight win or lose," said Aho.
The Marauders will be back on campus on Nov. 29 to host Concordia College.
