STANLEY, N.D. - The Stanley Blue Jays outlasted the Kenmare Honkers in five sets to win the Region 8 Championship to qualify for the Class B State Tournament. The title match had its ups and downs, according to Region 8 Senior Athlete of the Year Jossi Meyer and fellow senior Alyssa Ruden.
"After losing that fourth set we just really were determined to win the fifth set. We really were swinging at everything and being aggressive so I think that really changed it for us," said Meyer, middle hitter.
"We really wanted to win that fifth set, and we know we can win against them, so we all pulled it together and won that fifth set," said Ruden, middle hitter.
Now the Blue Jays will try to take down top-seeded Oakes, and their unpredictability can give them an advantage.
"This year we were a lot more determined. We already had a taste of it a little bit last year losing [in the Region 8 Championship] and I think we're just more determined to go this year. Nobody really knows what we're going to do. Nobody really knows about Stanley, so we have that going for us. We're going to be a surprise," said senior setter Taylor Dean.
Stanley and Oakes battle Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Fargodome.
