Sabre Dog host families

MINOT, N.D. – Minot families get a unique opportunity when the summer months roll around. The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs enlist host families to house their player and interns during the season.

One family hosted DJ Lewis and it quickly became clear to them this was more that just a couple-month relationship.

"We still talk to DJ by snap or phone calls or FaceTime all the time. They still love how much he eats food. They talk about how much he loves bacon. And then obviously going to the games. Baseball all the time all the time. Daxton, my 8-year-old, would not leave him alone,” said Mari Shearer, host mom.

Anyone can host a Sabre Dog, but Assistant General Manager Savannah Young says it's extra special if the family has kids.

"They really are good people to look up to for these kids. Just kind of a good role model for them. A lot of host families with their children got super attached. One of our host families actually used their player on their Christmas card,” said Young.

The Sabre Dogs are still looking for host families for this year's team and interns. If you are interested you can contact the Sabre dogs via email at or call them at 701-839-9100.
