BISMARCK, N.D. - West Region girls basketball seems to be dominated by one undefeated team, the Century Patriots. The Legacy Sabers are two spots behind them in the standings, as Legacy has only lost one game this season. Tonight, they play the Patriots.
The Sabers know it’s not going to be an easy task, but they’re up for the challenge this evening, as Head Coach Jim Petrik said: "You know, we've just got to play our game, we've got to play good basketball, we've got to defend better than we've been doing. Century's a very talented team, everybody knows they've got some great players. And, it's not just the two division one players they have, it's everyone else around them, too. They're all talented kids, they're well coached, have tradition but they're beatable, too. We try going into the game with our minds of playing our game, and do the best we can."
This will be the first meeting between each other tonight, and if there’s one thing the Sabers know they’ll need to execute, it’s on the defensive end.
"For us to win, we're going to have to play really good defense because they're a high scoring team, and we're going to have to box out and really get a lot of rebounds so we limit their second chance points. And we have to be very clean with the ball and limit our turnovers," said senior guard Taryn Allmaras.
"It will be a challenge,” added senior guard Kailey Weigel. “Every team is a challenge, but when you have a girls that's 6'4" and our tallest girls is 5'10", definitely a height disadvantage, but you know we'll put things in on defense to try to help us with that, and try to make it up somewhere else."
This game is just underway and we’ll have highlights tonight at 10:00 CT.
