Roughriders host Central Plains

DICKINSON, N.D. - Two AA-Legion teams are still active in North Dakota. West Fargo won the state championship and Dickinson is hosting the Central Plains.

Teams from North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Nebraska and Iowa will be in the Queen City for this top notch baseball tournament.

"It's definitely a treat to have that in your backyard. Just to see what it takes to get there. The energy that these kids bring. The focus they bring playing at that level and the winner of that gets to go to the World Series. Creighton Prep won it last year and they ended up losing in the national championship game and we were competitive against them last year," said Roughriders Head Coach Stephen Greenwood.

The Roughriders are a very young team this year, but it’s obvious they are playing their best at the end of the season, beating Post 2 in the opening round at State.

"This year is a different group,” Greenwood added. “It's going to be tougher. We're not deep in our pitching staff. We're not deep in the lineup but they're going to get a taste of that. Hopefully they can feed off of that for next year and see what it takes to get to that level and hopefully we can make it to a Central Plains not being the host team in the years to come."

The Central Plains starts on August 8 in Dickinson.
