A few decades ago, the thinking seemed to be, it takes a few good sunburns before you get used to being outside. We all know by now that is "not" the best thing for our long term health.
Johnnie Candle has more in this week's Pro's Pointer.
Johnnie Candle, MWC World Walleye Champion & ND Fishing Hall of Famer,
"During those first couple of fishing outings of the season you get so excited to get out there and actually catch a fish that we tend to forget to take care of ourselves and it never fails, my worst sunburn of the season usually comes during one of those first outings.
We all know that we should wear sunscreen and sun glasses those are obvious. I find there are times I forget to take care of my nose and lips. Just a little tube of chapstick with some SPF goes a long way there.
If you don't like to wear sunscreen because it's messy and it gets smell all over your fishing tackle.
There's a lot of other options now. We have lightweight sun protection shirts that are cool & comfortable. We even have gloves that keep the sun of your hands but allow your fingers to stay exposed so you can tie knots, make good cast's and feel the lightest of bites and if you're worried about your face, your neck and your ears. We can get total coverage by wearing one of these buffs.
There are times where I think, man I have to look pretty funny out there wearing all of this stuff, but you know what. I think it looks a lot better than skin cancer!"
Next week, Johnnie focuses on his favorite rod &reel combo for vertical jigging.
