Pro' Pointer #12

If your goal is to cover a lot of water while trolling. Anglers often need to spread their lures out.

In this week's Pro's Pointer, Johnnie Candle is talking about one of the most effective ways to accomplish that goal.

Johnnie Candle, MWC World Walleye Champion & ND Fishing Hall of Famer:

"There are many instances where we may want to fish farther away from the boat than can by using a longer fishing rod. Whether we just want to spread out and cover more water or when we want to place a lure in shallower water then we feel comfortable putting out boat.

The plainer board is the solution for both of those and these do not have to be intimidating. We start by letting out a predetermined distance of line and then we just attach the plainer board.

Start with the front clip first and then the back. After the board is attached, drop it in the water and let out line slowly until the plainer board reaches the distance away from the boat that we feel comfortable.

Many of these come with a built in bite detection system so when the flag goes down you know you have a bite but the bottom line is when the plainer board starts going backwards you know you got one. I'm Johnnie Candle and that's this week's Pro's Pointer."

Next Week, Johnnie gives us a lesson on which line make the best leader's. Part of the answer is, it depends on what type of fishing you are doing.
